About the Telepsychiatry Program

The Telepsychiatry Program at UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital brings world-class specialists to rural and underserved communities in Pennsylvania.

This makes receiving quality behavioral health care possible for a far greater number of people than before.

One of the Largest and the First Telepsychiatry Programs

Our program is one of the largest academic-affiliated telepsychiatry programs in the nation.

We're also one of the first major academic hospitals to offer telepsychiatry services to assess and treat people throughout the region.

The Telepsychiatry Program by the numbers:

  • Over 10,000 encounters per year
  • 23 board-certified psychiatrists
  • 17 counties in PA
  • More than 10 years of telepsychiatry experience.

Currently, the Telepsychiatry Program contracts with behavioral health agencies and medical centers throughout Pa. where psychiatry services are limited.

We offer children, teens, and adults:

  • Psychiatric evaluations
  • Medication management
  • Long-term care

Why Choose UPMC for Telepsychiatry?

Managing more than 10,000 encounters a year, the Telepsychiatry Program is the largest volume service within UPMC's telehealth network.

Our providers have access to all the most up-to-date research thanks to our affiliation with the University of Pittsburgh. Many psychiatrists in our program are a part of the faculty at the Pitt School of Medicine.

Within UPMC, our team:

  • Constantly seeks out new treatments.
  • Conducts research studies.
  • Trains the next generation of providers here and elsewhere.

All of this, along with the top-quality patient care we hold paramount.
